My focus centered entirely on the subject’s face and downward gaze, as I tried to catch a fleeting, deeply human duality: a quiet shyness paired with an undercurrent of unspoken excitement. I relied heavily on an intuitive process of building up numerous layers, combining thick textures with translucent, watery acrylics.
For me, it was deeply important to build a rough, heavy texture that resembles scars. I wanted to catch the profound truth that those scars formed Mona, and yet, through all her scars, she is beautiful. This tactile landscape contrasts against a palette of warm golden, peach, and autumnal tones that breathe through the skin, giving the figure a luminous, soulful quality. The final piece stands as a testament to resilience, mirroring the complex emotional layers held within her expression.
